"Orange Ribbon" multicultural program on JOY Melb

"Orange Ribbon" is a gay (sorry GLBTIQ, it's just simpler to shorten to "gay") multicultural program which  can be heard on JOY Melbourne every Thursday evening between 7:00-8:00pm. This program has been running since 1998.

I am a co-presenter, with Shanton Chang (and some more recent newer presenters, Hao, Rod and Ajay), of this weekly program which attempts to address issues of a multicultural nature as they relate to the queer community. The point of this post is two-fold:

1. Just to let everybody know that (with the approval of the AGMC committee) last night, Thursday 21st October, we ran an edited version of Dr. Happy Ho's moving presentation from last Saturday morning. And that on next weeks program (28th October) we will be running in its entirety, the excellent presentation by Anton Enus, also from the Saturday morning plenary session. I am not able to be on air next Thursday due to another commitment I have that evening, but Shanton will be on board, and will no doubt touch on some of the conference highlights. (As did Hao Truong and I on last nights program.) Our thanks to the AGMC committee for giving us approval to run these interviews.

2. And more importantly, the "Orange Ribbon" program is always on the lookout for new interview candidates who may have something interesting to discuss, or a life story to tell, or are involved in some kind of queer multicultural group or activity, that meets the program criteria. i.e. Of being of a multicultural nature, and with a GLBTIQ slant. Although there is the occasional program we have done that that does not specifically touch on queer issues. e.g. We semi-regularly interview somebody from the Melbourne Immigration Museum. So... if you are such a person, or know of such a person, who might be a potential interview candidate, then do let Shanton Chang or myself know.

HOWEVER... usually once each year Shanton and I decide to give the program a rest for three months. It just so happens that our next scheduled break is for the JOY Melbourne "Summer Season" program schedule. That means that our last program of the current season will be Thursday, 25th November, and then we would hope to return the program in March, 2005. We only have a couple of very short slots remaining unfilled between now and the end of November, so if you wanted to get something in soon, then you had better let Shanton or myself know about it very quickly.

Hi Allan,

If you like I can talk about "rice queen, potapo queen and sticky rice queen" from professional and personal perspective, on this HOT topic, on your program when i go on next.

Asvin,

Happy to do so, except... I think Shanton has another item down for your next gig... maybe related to the new Slavic and Gay Group. Otherwise, happy to take on this topic sometime.
