so what do we do?

After reading much of the treads listed on the forum. I have to now question, "what do we do"? As a young proud wog male. How are we supposed to live our lifes, if the mainstream gay culture is not tolerant to multiculturism. Do we continually put ourselves in these places and hope the everything will be ok, or ignore such issues, when often it stand in front of your face. Whether the scene is changing or will it ever be the "land of the milk and honey"?  weirdface:

Hi Nick,

i think you've put forth a very valid point - why highlight cultural issues faced in the GLBTIQ community if no one's going to do anything about it?

Personally, i hope this topic will be addressed more at the next AGMC conference (tentatively late 2006)!

I guess if the mainstream GLBTIQ culture is not tolerant to multiculturalism, one first step is to let the mainstream know this (e.g. gay media).

Then steps could be made to develop educational packages (or other stuff) that can be distrubuted to various mainstream (?) groups to facilitate discussion (e.g. what part of multiculturalism are people most intolerant of?) and create more openmindess...

just a thought!

and to end with a personal opinion: i don't get it (or rather, find it extremely pathetic) when GLBTIQ members in the community discriminate other ethinicities/cultures. Surely if they have an idea of how homophobia hurts them, why would they think racism (or other forms of discrimination) wouldn't hurt others?!

Hi Nick,

As a 25yr old gay aussie male I would like to remind u that not all of the glbtiq community is not tolerant of multiculturalism.  I have always lived in areas of melbourne that are extremely multicultural and i do know what Judy means about how i know how it feels to be discriminated against for being gay and the last thing i would want to is to do the same thing to others for either being born somewhere other than australia or having different cultural beliefs to me.

One of my first crushes in high skool was a cute greek boy!
